Clear the Area

The first step that needs to be taken is clearing the area. Ensure that objects like stones, dirt, and other debris are removed from the area. They can be removed appropriately using a broom or leaf blower. Remove other outdoor objects like bikes, outdoor furniture, and potted plants. Lastly, take a moment to find out which side of the driveway is the highest and which direction the water flows.

 

Apply Degreaser

Applying a degreaser loosens the stains in your driveway, which allows them to be pressure-washed away more quickly. Believe it or not, some pressure washers have a degreaser tool attached to them. If yours does not have this attachment, you must manually scrub the degreaser into the concrete with a brush. 

 

Assemble the Pressure Washer

Begin assembling the pressure washer by connecting the spray wand to the washer by using a pressure hose and the washer to a water supply using a garden hose. Remember that different nozzles are used for different purposes! When applying detergent, remember to shift your nozzle to a low-pressure setting, but use a high-pressure setting when rinsing. 

 

Begin Cleaning the Concrete

Remember to stay on the highest point of the driveway and make your way down to the bottom following the water flow. Begin pressure washing by:

 

• Pointing the spray wand at the driveway and pulling the trigger
• Move the nozzle back and forth against the concrete and overlap each stroke by a few inches
• Once the detergent has been applied, let it sit for about 15 minutes

Rinse the Concrete

After approximately 15 minutes has gone by, set your pressure washer to high pressure and switch the setting to rinse mode. Begin repeating the previous pattern of moving the spray wand back and forth to remove any excess stains. Don’t be afraid to make tighter sweeps to eliminate heavier stains. Once completed, let your driveway dry!
